Qualification

MSc. Organic chemistry/General chemistry with 2-3 years experience

Job Description

  • Synthesize known compounds efficiently using literature or in-house notebook procedures.
  • Synthesize new compounds by making appropriate modifications of known methods or modification of reaction conditions under minimal supervision (design of new or alternate reaction sequences is not a normal expectation, but will enhance the performance evaluation of the scientist). The range of reaction types handled capably by the scientist will be significant.
  • Purify synthesized chemicals to an appropriate degree. The scientist will be able to use the full range of chromatographic, crystallization and distillation techniques.
  • Analyze and identify compounds using a good range of modern separation and spectroscopic techniques. This will include interpretation of TLC, HPLC, and NMR spectra of moderate complexity.
  • Conduct literature searches for specific target compounds, structures related to the target compound, or to determine specific conditions for compounds and reactions.
  • Organize work time so that several reactions are run concurrently. Use time efficiently to produce target compounds and perform other tasks.
  • Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or services.
  • Find new and better ways of performing job by challenging established procedures.
  • Keep accurate, legible and complete records of all experiments and observations.
  • Submit acceptable written periodic reports. Prepare summaries of experimental findings reliably and independently.
  • Discuss routinely with supervisor the status of assigned programs and potential problems. The latter is especially important in cases where the scientist may be unfamiliar with the reagents or conditions to be employed.
  • Communicate orally and in writing unexpected occurrences that could adversely affect established timelines
  • Manage workload and time to enable the incumbent to perform multiple projects effectively, and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed on a timely basis.
  • Follow escalation protocol and demonstrate ownership of assigned work.
  • Display the ability to assimilate previously gained knowledge and experience and apply those concepts, techniques, etc. to new and related project areas.
  • Conduct laboratory operations in a safe manner. Maintain familiarity with the Chemical Hygiene Plan. Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.
  • Follow responsible actions regarding chemical disposal. Maintain compliance with all regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Volunteer to assist with tasks not directly related to specific projects.
  • Practice preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment and replenish laboratory supplies as stock depletes to prevent laboratory “down-time”.
  • Participate in self-development activities and training of others.
  • Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following

  • Must have a complete working knowledge of the requirements for a CRO facility and analytical laboratory.

  • Identify and correct issues that hinder the function and success of the Project Managers and their projects.
  • Review deliverables and sub-plans within the groups, including technical milestones, compliance strategy and billable scopes of work against quotes.
  • Assign new contract tasks and completion dates to team members as appropriate, maintaining workload schedules and projections
  • Ensures cooperation between multiple departments working on the same project to achieve timely completion of project, including sharing of information and increasing awareness of project flow.
  • Directs and establishes the smooth and efficient flow of resources between departments to assure the efficient completion of customer projects.
  • Creates and maintains a project review process as part of the close out of each project
  • Facilitate all key project meetings and departmental project review meetings on a regular basis
  • Ensures that the Gantt charts are created and maintained for purpose of tracking the timely completion of multidisciplinary projects.
  • Ensures there are regular updates on manufacturing project completion dates to the Finance department for the purpose of financial reporting.
  • Work as a customer advocate, keeping projects focused on meeting the needs of the customer, as well as ensuring regular and open communications with the customer.
  • Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and services
  • Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.
  • Protect employees and visitors by maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities include, directly supervises at least 20 employees in the Chemistry Lab. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. These job functions are subject to change per the business needs.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following

  • Responsible to source, negotiate, purchase raw materials and consumables from both local and overseas vendors.
  • Evaluate Vendor's quotations to ensure that they are in line with specifications required for the project
  • Collate purchase orders and purchase requisitions to place orders of materials, goods and supplies.
  • Incharge of daily operational purchasing needs such as planning, issuing and following up on Purchase orders delivery and shipment schedules.
  • Resolve supply, quality, service and invoicing issues with vendors.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality standards, delivery time & best prices. Ensure all the criteria are met according to the organizational requirements and expectation.
  • Manage any procurement activities including RFPs.
  • Manage both inward and outward logistics for all shipments.
  • Proficient in use of MS office applications (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Undertake any other ad-hoc duties as assigned.
